International Day Against Nuclear Tests
On 29 August we celebrate the World Day against nuclear tests, established by the United Nations in 2010 with the aim of promoting the cessation of nuclear tests and thus "foiling the devastating effects on people's lives".
The prohibition of such tests is considered by the United Nations Office for Disarmament (Unoda) a crucial step towards the creation of a safer world. "On this day, I invite the world to evoke a sense of solidarity commensurate with the urgent need to end the dangerous deadlock on the issue of nuclear tests," said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
